Wayfinding Assessments

We perform expert reviews for the design of individual sign messages as well as large scale wayfinding systems. Expert review of wayfinding systems involves walkthroughs from a user needs perspective to examine possible issues with respect to: information hierarchy, sign location, sign visibility, sign conspicuity and separation distance from other signs. For individual signs design issues such as sign legibility, information load, content organization, colour coding, font selection and use of pictograms are considered. Evaluations of individual sign message commonly include comprehension testing with representative users.

Our team has conducted sign design and wayfinding system assessments in a variety of domains:

  • Airport roadway, curbside, parking and terminal environments
  • Highways
  • City streets
