Human Factors North Inc (HFN) provides practical, reliable and efficient human factors and ergonomics solutions for business, industry, law and government.
Cognitive Ergonomics
In the cognitive area we address perceptual (vision, hearing) and cognitive (information processing, attention) human capabilities and limitations through:
- site visits related to industrial, transportation and recreational incidents and accidents;
- literature search and analysis;
- basic laboratory research on human perceptual and cognitive performance; and
- field research using instrumentation or naturalistic observation.
We produce technical reports, training courses and expert opinion reports in legal cases involving motor vehicle crashes, slips and falls, and inadequate warning.
Physical Ergonomics
In the physical area we address human anatomical, anthropometric, physiological and biomechanical characteristics and limitations through:
- site investigations in workplaces;
- assessment of working postures, materials handling, repetitive movements, musculoskeletal disorder (MSD) risk, workplace layout and design; and
- application of a holistic approach involving physical, social, organizational, and environmental factors to identify and reduce ergonomics-related hazards.
We produce technical reports and training courses in addition to providing expert opinion on Ministry of Labour orders, work refusals, and legal cases and inquiries. |
